Here are some images of my students at the “Decorative Fine Arts Camp” working on their color wheels. The purpose of this lesson was to teach these students how to knowingly mix and create new colors, and understand how color mixing works.
When I was teaching the color wheel to a group of five and six year old students I found that if I started with a demonstration of the entire process, step-by-step, typically half of the students would be able to take the demonstration and recreate the results on their own. The other students that could not use my demonstration as a guide would benefit most when I stood over their shoulder and had them do it themselves, as I gave detailed instruction for each step without ever reaching in and completing a step for them. They learned how to master the material because I had let them experience the entire process, done correctly, first-hand.
