Story Of Our Camp

Since September of 2023, I have expanded the offerings of the Deco Arts Camp, located in the historic Glen Echo Park, Maryland. In addition to our well-established summer camp for children aged 6-10, I am excited to share that we now provide year-round after-school and weekend classes for elementary and middle school-age students. This new initiative marks a significant addition to our program, allowing young artists to engage in creative activities beyond the summer months.

Founded in 2019, by Emma Cowan, an experienced art teacher with 13 years of teaching in various cities such as Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Bethesda, Deco Arts Camp offers a diverse range of art classes and activities. These include sculpture, painting, drawing, and mixed media, providing children with a comprehensive artistic experience.

Taking the reins from Sinclair Hamilton, a well-known sculptor in Maryland, who ran the camp for 25 years under the name “Decorative and Fine Arts Camp,” Emma is committed to continuing the camp’s legacy of fostering a fun and creative environment for children to learn and explore various art forms. Deco Arts Camp remains an excellent platform for children to develop their artistic skills and creativity, now with the added bonus of year-round programming.

Situated in Glen Echo Park, Maryland, a location with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1891 as a National Chautauqua Assembly, our camp benefits from its connection to a place dedicated to learning and cultural enrichment. The park’s transformation into an arts and cultural center, featuring various studios, galleries, theaters, and performance spaces, makes it an ideal setting for fostering creativity and artistic exploration throughout the year.
