Inspired by the travel photographer Erin Sullivan, my AP Drawing year one students were challenged to use everyday objects in their house to create a “landscape”. I asked them to paint or draw this scene as a complete composition. For examples of how Erin Sullivan has done this you can read the article here, as well as look at her instagram @erinoutdoors . This project was meant to be a very open-ended exercise to empower and challenge my students. Each painting here represents at least 4+ hours worth of work. Each painting reads as both a landscape and a still life simultaneously. The entire page or canvas was considered, and in the early sketches I pushed for a dynamic composition. I hope you enjoy this example of my AP Drawing year ones’ imagination gone wild!
