Book-Making Bonanza!

This past September and January, I had the absolute joy of teaching my Deco Arts Book-Making class—not once, but twice! Over the course of four sessions each time, my students dove headfirst into the magical world of book-making, and let me tell you, the results were nothing short of incredible.

We explored a variety of traditional techniques, from crafting accordion books and tunnel books to creating origami-style zines out of a single page. The students also learned how to wrap a slice of book board to make beautiful, professional-looking covers. Beyond the basics, they embraced mixed media and collage techniques to bring their books to life, adding layers of personality and creativity to every page.

Some students got wonderfully inventive, incorporating hidden messages or gluing in tiny books within their books. Others created interactive elements like paper doors and flaps, turning their books into multi-dimensional storytelling experiences. It was inspiring to see how each student’s imagination took these projects in unique directions.

A huge shout-out goes to my amazing co-teacher, Miss Madeleine, whose personal sketchbook was a constant source of inspiration for the kids. Her openness to a variety of materials and boundless creativity set the tone for what was possible. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in creativity!

If I could rate this class, it would get 5 stars for the fun, the learning, and the incredible final projects these young artists created. I’m thrilled to announce that Deco Arts Book-Making will return this coming April, and I can’t wait to see what new books and stories my students will bring to life.

Stay tuned for sign-ups—this is a class you won’t want to miss!

Warmly,
Miss Emma
