In our Studio II class we discussed how objects can become symbolic when we give them context or use them to tell a story. In this case we chose items that told me (the viewer) more about them as a person. In a way this simple object suddenly became almost a self portrait without having to be a literal portrait. We further leaned into this concept of a self portrait by using our own hands as props for the objects, or in two instances dogs. The results were phenomenal. I learned more about my students than I even expected. For example a love of Star Wars was revealed, and a student who has been remote all year and I were able to connect on a slightly deeper level!
